A little over a year ago, I was a typical broke college student surviving. I knew I needed to make money, but there was just one problem:

It sounded too good to be true, but I figured, What’s the worst that could happen?

My YouTube Flop Era

I dove headfirst into YouTube with zero experience, no budget, and an editing style that could best be described as tragic. My first few videos barely got any views. I’d refresh my analytics every five minutes, hoping for a miracle, only to see “3 views”—and two of them were from me.

It was painful.

But instead of quitting, I kept going. I experimented, improved my editing, and studied what worked. Slowly, things started to change.

One day, out of nowhere, one of my videos blew up.

I don’t know if it was luck or YouTube’s algorithm finally taking pity on me, but the views skyrocketed. 1,000… 10,000… 100,000… and then over a million now. My subscriber count exploded, and YouTube finally sent me the email every creator dreams of: Congratulations, you can now apply for monetization!

God, I remember that day I was really excited and even told my mom (even though she had little idea of what that mean)

Then came the real shocker—my first paycheck was over 6.5 million naira ($4,000+).

I went from calculating how much I could afford to spend on groceries to asking myself, Do I really need to check the price before adding to cart?

How I Made Six Figures (Without Showing My Face)

Once I saw that YouTube could actually make me money, I stopped treating it like a side hustle and started treating it like a business. Here’s what made the biggest difference:

1. I Kept Posting, Even When No One Was Watching

The beginning was brutal. No views, no likes, no hope. But I stuck with it, and eventually, the algorithm noticed me. YouTube rewards consistency, so the more I posted, the better my chances of going viral.

2. I Focused on Watch Time

YouTube loves videos that keep people watching. So instead of just uploading random content, I started making my videos more engaging, interactive, and binge-worthy. More watch time = more money.

3. I Mastered Thumbnails & Titles

You can make the best video in the world, but if nobody clicks on it, it’s useless. I learned how to create eye-catching thumbnails and curiosity-driven titles that made people think, I HAVE to see this.

4. I Didn’t Rely on Just Ad Revenue

YouTube ads were great, but I wanted more. I explored affiliate marketing, sponsorships, and digital products to increase my income. Because why settle for one income stream when you can have five?

From Broke Student to Full-Time Creator

Fast forward to today, and my life looks completely different. What started as a desperate attempt to make money turned into a full-time income, all without ever showing my face.
